The salon

May 2, 2009
Ah the salon. There's nothing that can make a girl feel so pampered and cute than a visit to the salon, where a 19 year old blonde who's never had a bad hair day in her life gives your hair a good trim and actually makes it look like you want it to. But then you get home and remember why you hate going getting your hair cut... because you'll never get it to look like she did, even with all the gobs of gook, hairspray, and a gazillion other hair care products you'll put in it.

Hmmm... the self-portrait doesn't really show how cute my haircut was, at least I thought it was. But according to the rules of the 365 project, I'm supposed to have a picture of myself a few times throughout this thing. And I was too chicken to ask if I could take a picture of my stylist's magic hair care products, so this is as good as you're going to get.

Faker

May 1, 2009
This is the face Pearl gave me when I tried to make my bed this morning and wouldn't keep throwing the covers on her. It's a ritual every morning to try and sneak into the bedroom to make the beds before Pearl figures out what I'm doing. Otherwise we spend 15-20 minutes playing "where's Pearl?" under the covers.
And remember, she has figured out she can watch herself pull faces in my mirror, which makes them even more dramatic now!

At least the yard will look nice

April 30, 2009
Pearl and I went to Relief Society Enrichment Night today, shocking I know, and learned that in a disaster we are screwed! I never thought about where we would go the bathroom if we had to leave our home or be stranded inside without electricity or water. You usually just get the spill about food storage but no one really talks about how you're going to actually cook any of your food storage (uh, which we don't have), sanitation stuff, or bathroom issues. Ok so I'm a little worried that as the speaker said "the rains will come and being prepared with food storage might just be like getting on the arc in the days of Noah" that I won't be able to get on the arc. But in the event of a disaster, at least our yard will look nice. What with Pearl sweeping all the dirt out of the flower bed, after Jeff tilled it and leveled it off nicely.

To the untrained eye

April 29, 2009
To the untrained eye an empty diaper box might seem like, well just that, an empty box. But for a bored almost two-year-old, it's a slide, hideout, and an easy way to entertain yourself for at least an hour. Pearl loves playing with the diaper boxes and most of time pushes them around the house begging us to take everything out and smash them down to make a slide. Tonight, she was using her imagination as she played with her new box (it should last an average of 2-3 days). I'm not really sure what she was pretending to be because I didn't get what she was saying or singing as she rolled a ball down the box, climbed on top of it, and crawled inside it. It sure is hard sometimes to understand her now that she is constantly talking and trying out new words. But oh what fun we have watching her explore new things!

Center of attention

April 28, 2009
I guess my camera has a pretty bright flash. I wouldn't exactly know as I'm the one behind the camera. I can't help it - I'm still trying to figure out how to get the thing to focus quickly so I can take a few pictures, especially when we're inside. After just about blinding Pearl in my attempt to get a cute picture of her playing on the couch, I turned my attention to Jeff because he wasn't moving and I figured I could test out a few camera settings on him. He didn't seem appreciate being the new center of attention. That and he was feeding his addiction to Facebook Mafia Wars.

Paranoid, I know

April 27, 2009
After yesterday's little oven incident, I was a bit freaked out (and a slightly grateful because Pearl was napping), that none of our smoke alarms went off. I thought for sure they would all be going crazy with the billowing smoke but not a one of them beeped. So today I stopped by Walmart on the way home from my last day of class (yeah!), and bought three new smoke alarms. Now let's just hope I remember to check the batteries every few months.

Why spend $10 bucks when you can have these at home?

April 26, 2009
I really want to go to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point but with the price tag of $10 a pop, decided to just have my own tulip festival - with a handful of daffodils - courtesy of Jeff's green thumb. Pearl was really excited to help me pick flowers and carried two of them around all evening until they literally fell apart. We stuck as many as we could into a glass Mason jar and even after 2 days, they still look beautiful!
