Redemption

February 6, 2009
I'm crossing my fingers that these hot pink beauties will make up for the past few days of cooking. It's my first time making sugar cookies (at the encouragement of Jeff) so let's hope I did everything right and they aren't rock hard tomorrow. Pearl had a great time helping me and was covered in flour in a matter of seconds. It was well worth the hour cleaning up the kitchen to see how excited she was to use the cookie cutters and eat the dough!

Nothing says college like...

February 5, 2009
Fredrico's. Ahhh...the lovely smell of a one-topping delicious pizza, buttery garlic bread, and cheap iceberg lettuce salads. We found ourselves here last night before the Aggies' victory over New Mexico State. Fredrico's is the ultimate reminder of my college days and well, home in general. Of course over the years they have remodeled the joint, minus the seat cushions, and now I have to admit it looks pretty good. When Jeff and I were dating he used to call me and beg for me to bring him lunch. Most of the time I refused but them my brother started working at the same place and if Jeff couldn't convince me to bring him a lunch special from Fredrico's he'd get Jesse to call and sob about being hungry too. Between the two of them I couldn't say no and often found myself picking up 3 lunch specials then driving down the Truss Plant for a picnic under the trees.

Addiction

February 4, 2009
Pearl is addicted to movies...Nemo, Monsters Inc, and now the Incredibles. While her addiction comes in handy when I need to shower, do homework, or clean it also causes some contention between father and daughter. Take today for example, Pearl wanted to watch a movie (it had been a whole 4 days) and Jeff wanted to watch the evening news. Well, after some wailing and yelling, both got exactly what they wanted - Jeff had the TV and Pearl learned the computer could do more than just type.

Worst cook on the planet

February 3, 2009
I am the worst cook on this entire planet! Seriously...just ask Jeff and Pearl who have to choke down my meals on those days I do feel like I should fulfill my wifely duties by cooking. Baking is another story but you can't live on chocolate chip cookies alone. I finally geared myself up to trying this whole menu planning thing again (after a month hiatus from planned cooking) thanks to my friend Maria's delicious blog but alas, my food just doesn't resemble hers. I guess before cooking you should make sure you have enough sauce, not cook too many noodles, and not try to hide any frozen veggies in the pasta dish. I'm blaming the disaster on my oven. Good thing my sister and brother-in-law are starving college students who will eat any leftovers I throw at them!

Bad hair day

February 2, 2009
Pearl and I go on a walk everyday after her nap and snack and since it was Monday, this meant waiting outside for daddy to pick her up so I could go to class. Pearl loves going outside with the "big" kids because they get to play on the playground and go down the slide. After a few rounds of this Pearl's hair was super static-y! I just love this picture of her, wild hair and all...too bad she was had her eyes closed.

Shhhhhhhhh!!!

February 1, 2009
I've learned that it only takes a few things to keep Jeff happy... going to all the Aggie basketball games, squeezing the toothpaste from the end (not the middle - admittedly still working on this one), and keeping quiet during any sporting event (or better yet, staying out of the same room as the hubby). And since today is the ultimate sport fan's grandest day, I did just that. Stayed out of the way. My dad always enjoys an excuse to have the family over, mostly so my mom has to feed everyone, and we had a fun time in Logan. We ate the traditional Super Bowl Party menu...chili, snacks, and more snacks, with a bonus birthday cake for Kimmy this year. As you can see Jeff was well prepared for the big game and his shirt served as a good reminder to let the man watch the it in peace (aside from the occasional taunting to come and get my butt kicked at Wii Guitar Hero). In case anyone is wondering where Jeff would get such a chauvinistic pig-like tee-shirt, I bought it for him at the ESPN store in Baltimore. I thought it was hilarious! After all, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

My assignment

January 31, 2009
The picture doesn't do this delicious bean salad justice I made for the family Super Bowl party...it tastes better than it looks I promise. It really is the best bean salad/salsa thing I've ever had and I finally preyed the
recipe out of Jeff's cousin's hands this past summer. I promised I wouldn't give it out to anyone but I do take bribes!

House elf

January 30, 2009
Anyone who has read the Harry Potter series knows the benefits of having a house elf. Well, a few months back in the stress of school, work, and trying to be a good mom and wife I told Jeff I wanted a house elf to help clean, do the laundry, cook, change diapers, and basically be my slave. I just didn't know when I said I wanted a house elf that it would come as a 25 lbs. piggy-tailed, jabbery, pip-squeak who seems to think the mop is better served as a wall scrubber. Not to mention the toys and baskets scattered across the floor in multiple rooms. Apparently it's part of the "magic" cleaning powers she posses.

The bell

January 29, 2009
The bell only comes out for the big games....like USU vs. Nevada. Jeff got his Aggie cow bell several years ago and has rubbed even the "Go Aggies" off it from all the cheering he's done (not to mention losing his voice). While the bell is loud, we aren't those annoying fans ringing it during every play. No, the play and intensity in the Spectrum have to be "bell worthy" such as an amazing 3 point shot followed by a monster block then another 3 with the crowd absolutely freaking out with excitement to seal the game. Next up, Fresno.
