My friend Rachel and I have intended to celebrate our graduation from the MPH program by treating ourselves to a much deserved pedicure for about three months now. It was a long journey together, as we both started the same semester, had babies along the way, changed and/or quit our jobs, and finally after four years finished together. You'd think trying to schedule a simple beauty procedure would have been a cinch but it was almost impossible for us to figure out a time to go together (with another good friend in tow). Today we finally found a couple hours where all our schedules were clear and babysitters were available and went to the salon. Ok, so it was the nail salon inside Walmart but hey, it was cheap and I thought they did a good job. And considering my feet are gross, dry, cracked, and well just plain disgusting in the summer, anyone would have made them look better than when I walked in. I decided to splurge and get the extra $5 flower on my toes because the paint I picked out wasn't as bright as I had thought it would be. Which was a good thing in the end because I totally ruined my cute toes at the pool tonight. I didn't think the polish would come off, and of course it was on my big toes right above the flowers! I didn't even get a close up shot of my cute toes! I guess it was a good thing thought that I hadn't picked out as bright of polish as Libbey and Rachel did though because then I would have really been mad that our trip to the pool (where I was just supposed to just watch Pearl and Jeff play in the water and not actually join them) ruined my fun time with just the girls, not to mention losing out on my $25. Urghhh!!! I was so sad about not having my cute piggy toes anymore that I made a frantic dash to Walmart at 10 pm for some emergency nail polish (and nail polish remover in case Pearl decides to paint my toes again). The repair job isn't perfect...I really have no idea what I'm doing...but at least everything is covered again and the spots where it came off aren't quite as obvious. This might sound crazy but I think I might actually keep this whole toenail painting thing up and have cute feet all summer long.

Tonight was the big night... my first (and probably only) Pampered Chef party. I'm typically not the type to set these things up, I like going to them, but they aren't my thing. And the fact that this was a cooking show was really out of my league. There is so much pressure with one of these parties because most people love this stuff and rave about how fun the parties are and the food is wonderful, blah, blah, blah! Needless to say the pressure caused me to go into overdrive making dessert, salads, buying extra rolls and juice, and cleaning the entire house (I even cleaned off the desk which is saying a lot) to the point of which Jeff commented before he went to bed that he wanted the house as clean as it was before the party (still trying to decide if this was truly a compliment or not). But I do enjoy an excuse to have friends over, make some treats we normally wouldn't have, and get the house all spiffy clean. Jeff was a good sport about the whole "woman party" as he called it. It was originally supposed to be outside, far away from his air conditioning, TV, and "man zone" but it was scalding hot today and with two pregnant friends coming, I figured I better change plans and move it inside where it was cool. The table looked really cute I thought with all the food and fresh picked flowers from our yard, thanks to Jeff. We crammed a whole bunch of ladies enjoying a night away from the hubbies and kids into our tiny kitchen, ate a ton of food, chatted, and had a good time. Jeff even babysat the kids in the back room for us. Now I'm just waiting to close out my show on July 28 (if you couldn't make it but want to order something, let me know and I'll drop off a catalog or you can go online) to see how much stuff I can order for FREE! Jeff's already told me what he wants (the only "good" things in the catalog) so I need a few more sales (wink wink) to get the things I want now!

I must be pretty lazy when it comes to planning my parties. After all Pearl helped with the baking yesterday, well sort of, and Jeff helped with the bean salsa salad tonight for my Pampered Chef party tomorrow. He knows I hate cutting up the onions and jalapenos (I swear I can smell them on my hands for a week after) and so he sliced all the stinky veggies for me. But this gigantic red onion almost got the best of him. I've never seen him tear up cutting an onion before but even Jeff said it was a crier. I only got a couple of pictures in before it was my turn to cry because the super bright flash nearly blinded Jeff...and with sharp object in hand, well let's just say Jeff reminded me that it wasn't a good idea on my part to be taking his picture at the moment. Thanks for all your help Babe with my "woman" party!!!

I got suckered into hosting a Pampered Chef party this week and in preparation for the slew of women expected to come, I decided to get an early start on the refreshments. There is a lot of pressure with these parties to provide yummy food and as much as I enjoy entertaining, I'm certainly not the type of hostess who can whip up delicate desserts and scrumptious appetizers on a moment's notice. So I did the only thing I'm remotely capable of doing - baking. Pearl decided she wanted to help bake cookies too so I gave her a mixing bowl, some measuring cups, and turned her loose in the baking supplies pantry. I've posted about her baking skills before but it's always an adventure to see what she comes up with. Tonight's cookies were made from pink and red sprinkles, oatmeal, water, sugar, flour, and some lime jello. My whole floor was covered in sprinkles and this gooey concoction that Pearl actually sampled! Yuck! After stripping her down to her diaper and letting her do the dishes, I was finally able to scrap off the sticky mess from the floor and see to it that my Peanut Butter fingers are at least edible come Thursday. We'll see what Pearl comes up with for appetizers tomorrow night.

Tonight's entertainment included taking my sick sister (whose hubby was playing in Lake Powell) some Popsicles and Gatorade while trying to avoid catching any of her germs, getting a screaming deal on cereal at Smith's (yummmm....Lucky Charms and Honey Nut Cheerios, 5 for $10), having a Mac&Cheese and cereal feast for dinner, taking a birthday card that Pearl scribbled all over to our neighbor Vickie, painting Pearl's fingernails blue to match Vickie's, and watching our road get paved. It was kind of interesting to watch all the trucks, back hoes, and other loud machines at work. Not to mention joking about all the construction workers standing around and the cops struggling to direct traffic on the now closed thoroughfares. Pearl seemed to enjoy all the noise (not sure how long we will enjoy it tonight though) but wasn't too keen on listening to Jeff explain the intricacies of road paving. I think she would have rather climbed on top of one of the machines and taken it for a spin than listen to her dad. But the best part of our exciting evening is knowing that tomorrow we can drive on a brand new, smooth paved road!

I guess Pearl pays more attention to what we tell her than previously thought. On Saturday she was pretty grouchy which coupled with the fact that it was our anniversary, didn't make for a good combination. After much whining, calling for me repeatedly, and telling us "no" we had about had it! We told Pearl on several occasions that if she didn't stop crying that she would go to timeout. She didn't like that idea and would stop freaking out just long enough for us to forget about the last fit. Well, this morning as I was getting ready for church, Pearl brought in her dolls, chairs, a piece of paper and pen into the bathroom. After some mumblings which I couldn't understand, I heard Pearl tell her doll "no crying, timeout" as she set her doll down on the chair. She would then scribble on her paper, take the doll off, and repeat the process with a different doll. The poor things got left there for quite some time...way longer than Pearl has ever been left in timeout...and they didn't even get a hug after their punishment was over.
