If you really stop and think about them, straws are a pretty incredible little tool and for kids, a fascinating one at that. I mean you can blow bubbles, spit, make music, all kinds of things with them. But the best part is that a straw can be a powerful parenting tool to get your kid to actually drink from her own cup. You see, at dinner Pearl usually refuses to drink out of her spill-proof sippy cups and often yells at us until we let her drink from our glasses or water bottles. So Jeff decided he would try giving her a straw in her own cup to keep the germ sharing to a minimum. It worked... at least through most of dinner until she started freaking out and screaming "NO" with only about an inch of juice left. I really don't get 2 year olds.
