Lesson learned. Never, ever take your kid to the zoo on Labor Day! I'm not sure who was more excited me or Pearl... I mean Hogle Zoo has new baby tigers! But the stark realization that our fun day at the zoo wasn't going to happen sunk in pretty quick as I saw a line of cars parked on the street a mile from the zoo! I was pretty disappointed knowing there was no way we were getting in, let alone finding anywhere to park. At this point, Pearl was begging to see the zebras so I turned around and headed up to "This is the Place Heritage Park" where I figured I could distract her with some farm animals instead. We wandered up and down the streets looking for baby animals, which we eventually found and stood in line for 20 minutes for a 30 second pony ride. We found a huge sucker in the ZCMI store and then hopped on the train for a ride or two or three. I practically drug Pearl off it kicking and screaming. And then I made Pearl go back to the Samuel Jewkes Home for a picture. Samuel Jewkes was my great-great-great grandpa who lived in Fountain Green, Utah where he operated a sawmill in the mid 1860s. I tried explaining all this to Pearl who looked more confused than ever when I told her it was one of her grandpa Jewkes' houses. I could see the little wheels in her head turning and thinking "Yeah right, Mom...this looks nothing like my grandpa's house." I guess I wanted Pearl to gain an appreciation for her ancestors... at least someday she will thank me for this picture!

I didn't know you were such a celebrity! So was it worth taking P there? I've never been, and have been told Kaleb probably wouldn't enjoy it much....
